4 WAYS TO REACH YOUR FITNESS GOALS IN 2020
If this year has taught us nothing else, it’s shown us our ability to adapt to the rapidly changing world around us. From virtual happy hours and teleconferences, to sports and how we celebrate special moments with family and friends, we have all been subject to the will of social distancing and quarantine-- how we train and workout is no different. Regular physical activity has been an outlet for millions of people throughout this pandemic, and as we explained in an earlier blog on the state of personal training, healthy lifestyles are pertinent to navigating a world riddled with COVID. As 2020 comes to a close, Strong Mind Strong Will Fitness would like to share how we have adapted to the ever-changing, uncertain world around us.
Wearable Technology
First on our list is wearable fitness technology. We discussed this trend in an earlier blog post and the various products available for active people to select from. Incorporating this particular kind of technology into regular workout regimens aids in identifying fitness goals, tracks progress towards reaching those goals, and makes it possible for you to stay connected to your trainer(s) and/or fitness partners when working out from home.
High Intensity Interval Training
High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is ranked number two in fitness trends of 2020 according to ACSM. Science Focus describes the training method as involving short, high-intensity spurts of exercise and short rest or recovery periods pushes clients to perform at 85-90 percent of their maximum heart rate. This trend is popular globally and while there have been reports of increases in fitness injuries related to HIIT exercises, the trend does not appear to be decreasing in engagement. This workout trend can be competed in a socially-distanced, small group setting, at home, or with a personal trainer; making it a suitable regimen in any setting year round.
Personal Training
Ranked in the top five of ACSM’s 2020 fitness trends is personal training. As training professionals have become more accessible via online, in health clubs, in the home, and in worksites, you are provided with one-on-one services that help you to clearly identify their goals and work towards them. Personal trainers understand the concern for health safety while committing to a healthy lifestyle. With many trainers now providing online, in-person, app-based, and hybrid services, we are doing our part to ensure you, the client, can practice safe habits while working toward your fitness goals.
Socially-distanced Group Fitness
Group training, any professional-led, intentionally designed in-person movement class consisting of more than five participants, ranks in the top five of fitness trends in 2020 by ACSM. Participating in group fitness classes is meant to provide a sense of motivation and collective work for interested participants regardless of fitness level. In the beginning of the pandemic, it was nearly impossible to envision a group fitness class without fear of potential spread. Today, gyms and trainers have gotten creative by tapping into a setting that was almost too obvious--the outdoors. Though intentional social distancing practices, participants can safely have the sense of motivation and camaraderie that group fitness affords them.
